Travel Tips

What to sort out before you fly between Tamil Nadu and Singapore — from our Trichy and Singapore desks.

1. Passport & visa

  • Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive in Singapore.
  • Indian passport holders need a Singapore visa before flying. Apply 2–3 weeks ahead; our visa desk handles the paperwork.
  • Work pass holders: carry your pass and check it is valid on MOM.

2. SG Arrival Card

  • Every traveller entering Singapore must submit the SG Arrival Card within 3 days before arrival.
  • It is free on the official ICA website or the MyICA app — avoid look-alike sites that charge a fee.
  • Keep the confirmation email handy at immigration.

3. Baggage

  • Low-cost fares on Scoot, IndiGo and Air India Express may include cabin bag only or a small check-in allowance. Check your fare before packing.
  • Adding check-in baggage before the flight is far cheaper than paying at the airport — ask us when you book.
  • Power banks and spare lithium batteries go in your cabin bag, never in check-in.
  • Liquids in hand baggage: containers of 100 ml or less, in a clear resealable bag.

4. Airport timings

  • Reach the airport 3 hours before international departures at Trichy, Chennai, Coimbatore and Changi.
  • Check-in counters usually close about 60 minutes before departure, and late passengers are not accepted.
  • Web check-in opens 24–48 hours before departure on the airline’s site — see Check PNR.

5. Money & connectivity

  • Carry some Singapore dollars for your first taxi or meal; cards are widely accepted in Singapore.
  • Tell your bank you are travelling so your card is not blocked abroad.
  • Singapore uses the 3-pin UK-style plug (Type G) at 230 V — pack an adapter.

6. Before you leave home

  • Carry printed copies of your ticket, visa and hotel booking alongside the digital ones.
  • Travelling with children? Carry their birth certificate copies and passports together with yours.
  • Consider travel insurance for medical cover — Singapore healthcare is excellent but expensive.
